Developed by Ford Freudenberg Filtration experts, Ford MicronAir Protect cabin air filter prevents allergic pollen and dust from entering the vehicle as well as various viruses and microbes that can cause serious health problems. The new cabin air filter uses a special active layer developed with a formula containing carbon and citric acid which is also found in lemon. The system, while providing protection against unwanted bacteria, viruses, yeasts, and fungi, also prioritizes the health of all passengers in the vehicle with its antiviral feature.
This new cabin air filter, which is included in the Ford product range, also protects against viruses such as Swine Flu (H1N1) and Coronavirus (COVID-19) and prevents viruses from entering the vehicle. Thanks to its special active layer, MicronAir Protect cabin air filter is 99.9 percent effective in neutralizing contacted viruses. These viruses include Swine Flu (H1N1) and HCov-229E. The filter is expected to be equally effective (99.9%) against SARS-CoV-2, which causes Covid-19, although it has not been tested yet due to current conditions. Coronaviruses spread with droplets produced by sneezing, coughing, or breathing. They can remain infectious for hours or even days on surfaces. Factors such as wind, temperature changes, and humidity can cause these particles to get back into the air, while the filter prevents viruses from entering the vehicle.
How does the MicronAir Protect filter system work?
The Ford MicronAir Protect cabin air filter can filter 0.05-micron thick particles that are less than a thousandth of a human hair. The filter when mounted to the vehicle's ventilation system, dilutes the density of harmful entering particles, such as viruses, dust, and pollen. By minimizing the possibility of contamination and infection via eliminating the virus-carrier water droplets as quickly as possible, the system protects the health of the driver and passengers in the vehicle. The new filter has an active carbon element designed to provide additional protection against harmful substances for human health, such as various particles and acid gases. The filter contains a multi-layered microfiber barrier that can trap viruses, particles, dust, and pollen.
